Museveni Boosts His Ministry of Health with 1,350 Vehicles to Fight CoronaVirus

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni today flagged off a fleet of vehicles to help the Ministry of Health fight the Corona Virus pandemic.

The President said through his Facebook page, that his government intents to increase the number of cars that will help the ministry of health in dealing with the Corona Virus pandemic and other similar crises.

He issued a warning to the ministry of health officials not to misuse the cars as they’re meant for critical times only.

Museveni’s government is targeting to start with 1,350 vehicles. With this number, each district will get at least 10 vehicles.

He additionally said that from now onwards, truck drivers will be tested and their results confirmed before being allowed to enter Uganda.

“We want to test these drivers before they come here. They should only be allowed to move when the results are released,” wrote President Museveni.

“I will in detailed address this matter on Tuesday,” promised the President.

In today’s COVID-19 updates, Uganda registered an increase in the number of people testing positive from 63 to 74.

The 11 found today were tested at different border points, and includes 6 Tanzanians and 5 Kenyan truck drivers.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, director of general health services in the ministry of health, confirmed that 3 of the five Kenyans entered Uganda via the Malaba border, while the other 2 entered via Busia border.

The Director said the 11 Corona Virus positive cases were among the 1020 samples of truck drivers tested at border posts.

Owing to the recent confirmation of truck drivers testing positive for Corona Virus, Museveni said that his Minister of Health is currently meeting line ministers of different East African Region to map the way forward.

He additionally said that from now onwards, truck drivers will be tested and their results confirmed before being allowed to enter Uganda.
