After a long wait of speculations and worry in Bomet County, it is now confirmed that the 12 Medics who who came in contact with the patient who passed on of Covid-19 have turned out negative.
According to Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, the medics were given a matter of urgency in testing as they are among the essential service sector providers.
The Governor confirmed the cases while speaking to one of the Kalenjin local stations.
“Following the confirmation of the first COVID-19 case in Bomet county yesterday, I am glad to inform you that initial tests on all our 12 medical personnel who attended to the deceased in Longisa Hospital and are currently in quarantine, have turned out negative for coronavirus,” Governor Barchok said.
The deceased was 55-year-old Nairobi-based businessman who travelled to Bomet county from Nairobi using a police vehicle secured by a relative on Monday the 4th of May 2020.
The deceased businessman identified as Erick Kosgei was admitted to Longisa Hospital the same day as he had travelled while ill and had a history of diabetes.
Samples were taken to KEMRI in Kisumu on May the 5th 2020 after he passed on. On 12th May, the results confirmed that the deceased was Covid-19 positive.
After the KEMRI test results, the doctors, nurses, and 16 of his close family members who had come in contact with the deceased were placed under quarantine.
In a bizarre and rare case, the first of its kind in Bomet County, the residents witnessed Mr Erick Kosgei being buried on Wednesday night at Kagawet village in Itembe, Chepalungu constituency.
